KATANJI BROWN JACKSON THE FIRST BLACK FEMALE SUPREME COURT NOMINEE
History making moments are just that. A wrinkle in time that will go down in history such is the case for Katanji Brown Jackson. As the first black female Supreme Court justice her legacy will be large. Her vision far greater than the bench she will occupy. Her story is far different than any of her predecessors. The irony is she will be filling the seat of Justice Breyer for whom she was a clerk many years prior. With great care and thoughtfulness during her confirmation speech Katanji shared she would never be able to fill the shoes of Justice Breyer, but would commit to upholding the constitution and doing her very best to serve the country she loves dearly.
GIVING UNDERSTANDING TO THE PROFUNDITY OF THE LEGACY KATANJI IS BUILDING
Her story is beautiful not only because her name Katanji Onikye means beautiful, but because she follows in the footsteps of the first black female federal judge Constance Baker Motley an unsung hero with whom she by no matter of coincidence shares a birthday. Following in her footsteps she honored Motley during her confirmation speech with thoughtful prose understanding deeply the history she is making in this moment and the legacy she is forging.
KATANJI’S BROWN JACKSON’S RESUME IS OUT OF THIS WORLD IMPRESSIVE
A more pedigreed judge has hardly ever come around. Katanji Brown Jackson arrives with a Harvard law school education and extensive experience not only as judge having presided over a thousand cases, but has clerked for three judges and Supreme Court Justice including Justice Stephen Breyer, the seat she has been nominated to fill.
Watch Katanji’s historic speech above. Our favorite part is when she introduces her husband Dr. Patrick Jackson and honors he two beautiful daughters.
