The Art Of Lounging In Style, From Couch To Home Office

Lounging around is nothing new. Lounging while working or reading is of course par for the course. This is not a new thing to work and lounge, but what is absolutely one of my favorite things is lounging in style.

Not to mention a good pair of jeans. And while the baggy trend has been big and baggy it seems to be dragging on a little too long, pun intended lovies.

Thoughts on the jeans, sweaters and little luxuries making me want to sit down and stay awhile.
I work from home. I write from home. It’s how I make my way in life. I read from home a lot. And somewhere along the way, I decided that being comfortable does not mean I have to spend every day looking like I’ve completely given up.
Enter one of my favorite little luxuries: lounging in style.
Give me a cozy, lush sweater, a great pair of jeans and just enough shape to make me feel like myself, and I’m happy. I’m not dressing for an office exactly—but I am dressing for myself and for “office mode,” so the grungy old sweats take away from my writer at work mode. Frankly, there is something about putting on clothes I actually like that makes me want to get more done.
Comfort, yes.
Pajamas until 4 p.m.? Not always, but on occassion. Sure.

As you may or may not know I’m a lover of all things denim. I’ve been wearing high end denim since my teens. Was exposed to a pair of Guess skinny jeans with the ankle zippers and I’ve never looked back since.

The Art of Being Comfortable Without Looking Like You’ve Given Up

Lounging around is nothing new. Working from the sofa with a laptop nearby? Reading in the middle of the afternoon? Sitting down with coffee and suddenly realizing you’ve been there for three hours? Of course, par for the course.
But there is a difference between being comfortable and feeling good in what you’re wearing.
For me, luxury lounging is about finding those pieces that make staying home feel a little more indulgent. A sweater you can’t wait to put on. Jeans that are comfortable enough to sit and work in but still make you feel pulled together and stretch with you rather than against you in all the right ways when you’re pulling a 12. A sneaker that somehow makes the whole thing look intentional.
I’m not talking about dressing up to sit in your own house.
I’m talking about wearing things you genuinely love.
And right now, apparently, I have thoughts about jeans.
Are We Ready for a Little Shape Again?
Not to mention a good pair of jeans.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’ve enjoyed the baggy era. There is something wonderfully freeing about not caring quite so much about sucking anything in, showing a waist or looking polished every second of the day.
I’ve worn the loose fits. I’ve done the barrels. I’ve embraced the comfort.
But lately?
I’m starting to miss a little shape.
And while the baggy trend has been big and baggy, it seems to be dragging on a little too long.
Pun intended, lovies.
Not skin-tight. Not uncomfortable. I’m not necessarily looking to go back to feeling vacuum-sealed into my jeans either. I just want a great pair of denim that remembers I actually have a body underneath all that fabric.
A little shape.
A little flattering.
A little something that makes me look in the mirror and think, oh yes, there I am.

Here are some of my current favorite jeans right now –

Yes Mother takes the cake. I am eyeing this pair right now. While I’ve been loving the big baggy barrel thing I’m ready to get back to a flattering pair of jeans that gives my shape a little shape. The baggy thing has been comfortable and I do enjoy not caring so much, but these are starting to really tug on my heart strings. With a little cute sneaker and a black sweater this will be the perfect winter staple this year.

Mother Jeans
And omg not the pullover sweatshirt from Mother. Oh man. I invested in an expensive sweatshirt about 4 years ago and I don’t regret it. It’s the college crew sweatshirt from The Great and boy has this thing held up. It’s definitely time for another investment of this sort. But this one from Mother could definitely step up to the plate as a close second I’m sure. This is a wishlist post. Haven’t tried this, but have several pairs of mother and know a thing or two about garments..

I’ve Been a Denim Girl Since the Beginning

As you may or may not know, I’m a lover of all things denim. I’ve been wearing high-end denim since my teens.
I still remember being exposed to a pair of Guess skinny jeans with the ankle zippers, and I’ve never really looked back since.
There is just something about great denim. You know it when you put it on. The weight of it. The wash. The way it fits. The way one really good pair can become the foundation for half your wardrobe.
And yes, I still love finding a pair of jeans that makes me feel like I have my life together—even if I’m only planning to sit at my desk, write for six hours and wander into the kitchen seventeen times.

The Jeans Currently Tugging on My Heartstrings

Here are some of my current favorites right now—and yes, Mother takes the cake.
I am eyeing this pair right now.
While I’ve been loving the big, baggy, barrel thing, I’m ready to get back to a flattering pair of jeans that gives my shape a little shape again. I’ve enjoyed the comfort of oversized denim—and I do enjoy not caring quite so much—but these are really tugging on my heartstrings.
Add a cute sneaker and a black sweater, and I think you’ve got one of those outfits you’ll wear over and over.
The kind you reach for when you want to look put together but absolutely refuse to be uncomfortable.
Now, full disclosure: I haven’t tried this exact pair yet. This is a wishlist post, my loves, not me pretending I’ve personally tested everything I’m showing you.
But I have several pairs of Mother jeans and know a thing or two about the brand; it’s premium. So when I say I’m interested, I’m interested.

Here are some favorites of mine that I’d absolutely work from home in. Someting about cozying up in a sweater that really gets me cranking it out on the blog here.

The Luxury Cost-Per-Wear Test

Oh, and not the pullover sweatshirt from Mother.
Oh man.
A few years ago, I invested in an expensive sweatshirt that set me back about $150, and I don’t regret it one bit.
It was the College Crew sweatshirt from The Great, and I’ve had it for about four years now. It has held up and held it down beautifully. I’ve worn it more times than I could possibly count, and it’s one of those purchases that has made me rethink what I consider “expensive.”
Because sometimes something costs a lot.
And sometimes something is expensive.
Those aren’t always the same thing.
If I buy something for less money and replace it three times, did I really save anything? If I spend more on something I wear for four years, dozens and dozens of times, does the original price suddenly look a little different?
That’s my little luxury cost-per-wear test.
Would I still be happy I bought this four years from now?
That doesn’t mean everything has to be an investment piece. Please. Sometimes you just want a fun shirt. Sometimes you want something trendy. Sometimes you want to spend $20 and be done with it.
But for the things I wear constantly? Jeans. Sweaters. Sweatshirts. Shoes I live in?
I’m starting to appreciate buying fewer things I genuinely love.
Which brings me back to this Mother sweatshirt.
Have I tried it? No.
Would I like to? Absolutely.
This one is firmly on the wishlist. But after owning several pairs of Mother jeans and having such a good experience with my beloved College Crew from The Great, I’m very curious to see whether this could become another one of those game-changer pieces I reach for year after year.

The Sweater That Makes Me Want to Sit Down and Stay Awhile

There is something about cozying up in a sweater that really gets me cranking it out on the blog here.
I don’t know if it’s psychological or if I’m simply a person who performs better when she’s wrapped in something soft and warm, but give me a good sweater, coffee nearby and nowhere I absolutely have to be, and suddenly I have ideas.
I want to write.
I want to read.
I want to stay right where I am.
And this, to me, is part of the whole luxury lounging thing. It’s not necessarily about buying the most expensive version of everything. It’s about creating those little moments where you actually enjoy your life while you’re living it.
A beautiful sweater.
A pair of jeans you love.
A comfortable chair.
Good light.
Maybe a candle.
Maybe a little snack because apparently writing requires snacks.
You get the idea.

This APC Sweater – OH My ! ?

Ideally something warm and cozy—a beautiful sweater, a chair, coffee, books, or a relaxed work-from-home scene.

A Few Things I’d Absolutely Work From Home In

Here are a few more favorites of mine that I would absolutely work from home in.
And by “work,” I mean write a few paragraphs, answer emails, get distracted by a new idea, make coffee, look at sweaters online and then eventually get back to work.
The perfect work-from-home wardrobe, in my opinion, should not require you to choose between comfort and feeling good.
I want both.
I want the sweater.
I want the jeans.
I want the cute sneaker.
I want to feel comfortable enough to sit for hours and put together enough to walk out the front door if I suddenly decide I need coffee—or, more realistically, have to go somewhere because I forgot to buy something I absolutely needed.
This is the beginning of my luxury lounging wishlist.
And I have a feeling there will be more.
Because apparently, getting dressed to sit down is now one of my hobbies.

My Luxury Lounging Rules, Apparently

After thinking about it, I suppose I do have a few rules:
Comfortable enough to actually live in.
Flattering enough to make me feel like myself.
Nothing so precious that I can’t spill coffee on it and survive emotionally.
A few pieces worth spending more on.
A few things that are just fun.
And absolutely no rule saying I have to wear real pants if I’m not leaving the house.
Although, as we’ve established, I do love a good pair of jeans.
So perhaps I’ll put them on anyway.
What are your favorite things to wear when you’re working from home, reading, writing or simply spending the day lounging around?
And more importantly: are you ready for a little shape in your jeans again, or are you still happily living the baggy life?
Because I need to know.
My pretties, I may have thoughts.
