It’s the exchange you’ve never seen before – the Will Smith and Chris Rock talk. Not sure if this is meant to be before the “slap” felt around the world, but there’s a strange irony to it.
Will Smith’s choice of words are prophetic to say the least.
The strange way in which the clip begins shows Chris Rock seemingly jittery, uneasy and slow to make eye contact, almost nervous and shifty as if he’s privy to what’s to come for the two of them years down the road or perhaps he’s contemplating what has transpired.
The two have a strange exchange. It’s truly captivating and it goes like this right from the top –

Will Smith: “Look, we all have our natural instincts, you know. If a left hook is coming some people wanna duck. Some people naturally put their glove up…..that’s my natural reaction is this. It’s the complex simplicity of greatness.” He goes on to say –
“I have this habit of attacking things that make me uncomfortable”
“and you have no control over it?”
“absolutely not”
Here’s the kicker – while I was very convinced this is a real exchange between the two apparently it’s heavily edited and relies a lot on A.I.
My initial sentiment was that this conversation took place after Will Smith played Ali, but that is my tendency to want to believe witnessing a conversation between two people still means two people actually had a conversation. Before artificial intelligence.
I’d still like to think what I saw is what it was, but I’ll let you be the judge.
Real or fake? Fact or fiction? Who’s to say?
