Why is America not aiding Yemen? Why are we not speaking of this ongoing war that has killed thousands, left thousands more displaced and fleeing, orphaned thousands of children? Thousands maimed.
What are we hiding? Are we in cahoots with the culprits? When taking a deeper look it appears we may have blood on our hands. A lot of blood.
When there is injustice we cannot simply turn away and look away. We cannot be inhumane in that way. We cannot be so self-absorbed that we allow others to suffer because we are not. We cannot ignore the horrific injustices of the world.
There are men, women, and children being harmed and catastrophized every single day. What are we going to do about it?I have not the answers, but only this question.
How do we go on knowing such atrocities are happening at this very moment? How do I live peacefully in this aching reality? I’m not sure what can be done, but asking is there nothing I can do? Is there something we can do?
Let us not become heartless, non-feeling beings with no compassion and zero capacity to exercise empathy. What can we do? Perhaps nothing, but let’s hope for the best and let’s pray for an end to the awful sickness that is war.
