So I get asked this a lot. It’s one of the most common questions – How do I stay motivated?
Getting motivated is pretty easy. We’ve got an idea, we’ve got a goal and it’s all new and exciting in the beginning.
So we muster up that effort to tackle it. We do it for a week or two and then when we realize we have to play the long game and just like that we’re out before we even got started.
This is the problem with most people staying motivated. In this day and age it’s so easy to get a quick fix. It’s so easy to disengage and get distracted. We want it fast. Everything is at our fingertips and we assume a desired outcome is a finger snap away, but that’s not how it works.
We don’t feel like putting in the hard work and the grit so we turn to our devices and they are the Calgon of our day. They can just like that “take me away.”
So here’s what you need to understand about those who get motivated and stay motivated.
The first step is this –
-
Be clear about what it is that you’re after. Have a clear – definitive goal in mind. And when you figure out what this goal or ambition is you need to be totally clear on the steps you’re going to take to get there.
-
Be totally honest with yourself about the baby steps you have to take to get there. And keep it realistic. It’s great to have big lofty goals, but being realistic is just as important. You don’t want to fool yourself in thinking it will happen overnight and a month or two down the road give up because you’re still a year or two a way.
-
Get A Routine Going. – Figure out the steps and work your day accordingly. It doesn’t mater if this is your side hustle and you’ve got another job. That’s not an excuse. Work on your dream at night. Work on it at your lunch break. Work on it on the weekend. And if you have the luxury of working on it without having distractions and another job or two then work on it 24/7. How bad do you want it? Those who want it and go after it and get it become that thing they are after. It truly becomes them. They devote time and effort and grit and they see it begin to materialize before them. You will begin to the see the fruits of your labor and let that keep you on your path to the ultimate desired result. You will get there.
-
Don’t give up. This is the biggest reason people don’t actually get there. They give up. They get distracted. They don’t see the results quick enough and they end up letting it go all together. It may take a decade, but if you stick with it and keep faith deep down in your soul you will get there.
-
Understand time. Begin to look at life deeply, more philosophically and understand the brevity of time. Understand that a year or two is nothing in the greater scheme of things. Think of where you’ll be if you give up. Time will not stop for you or your goals. You’ll still be a year or two down the road before you know minus the desired result or goal materialized. Wouldn’t be better to be living that dream.
-
Your happiness depends on it. The most fulfilled people are those who are deep and meaningful lives. They give back to others. They can step outside of themselves. And they dream big and they set their path on that dream and they make that their life. They live passionately in the pursuit of something that excites them. They are fulfilled because they know what they are capable of. They know their own strength and worth. They know there is greatness inside. They have inner fulfillment because they finished what they started. If you don’t get focused and clear minded and go after you will live in the space of – coulda, shoulda, woulda. And that’s no way to live.
